Working with plastic flooring in hot weather. 😎 ☀️

Summer is a great season for flooring projects, but high temperatures also bring challenges. Think shorter processing time, faster curing and risk of gloss differences. With a few smart adjustments in your working method, you can lay a smooth floor even in warm weather without any problems.

Tips from STRIZO for high temperatures

In hot weather or summer conditions, there are several factors to pay close attention to when laying plastic floors (such as PU or epoxy floors). This is because high temperatures can significantly affect drying. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Shorter processing time:
    • The higher the temperature, the faster the product reacts and thus cures faster. At higher temperatures, mix only what you can process immediately.
  2. Accelerated curing
    • The floor may cure faster than desired, which can cause deposits, rolling marks and gloss differences. Therefore, work with caution, and avoid interruptions in the process.
  3. Product temperature
    • Store products in a cool, well-ventilated area, at a room temperature of about 20°
  4. Ambient temperature & substrate
    • Work preferably in the morning or early evening, when it is less warm. Maintain at least 3°C above dew point to avoid condensation and avoid temperature fluctuations.
  5. No forced drying
    • Do not use fans or blowers directed at the surface. This can cause uneven drying, colour differences, soft spots, roller tracks and poor bleeding.
  6. Check humidity
    • Keep the relative humidity below 80%. Too high humidity can cause colour differences, soft spots or poor curing.
  7. Preparation and speed
    • Make sure all tools are ready before you start. Work quickly, but accurately, with well-matched rollers, brushes and materials.
